Foundation grant supports two programs' vocational training for at-risk youths

Diakon Youth Services has received a $20,000 grant from the Kenneth Bankert Foundation of Camp Hill to support service to 30 at-risk youths in Diakon’s Center Point and Turning Point programs through May of next year.

The grant is the largest of the foundation’s three consecutive-year donations to Diakon Youth Services and supports vocational training for the youths including an introduction to construction program.

“We appreciate the foundation’s support and are excited that the grant supports vocational training and workforce instruction,” says Jason Brode, executive director, Diakon Youth Services. “This will add significantly to our efforts to provide work-related instruction to the youths we serve.”

Both Turning Point, located in Lancaster, and Center Point, based at the Diakon Wilderness Center near Boiling Springs, are day treatment programs that aid at-risk youths who struggle in a traditional school environment. The programs serve youths from Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Perry and surrounding counties.

The programs’ key goal is for each student to be a successful graduate and a productive, connected, and law-abiding member of the community, Brode says.
