Foundation continues to assist Flight program keep young men on right path in life

Boiling Springs, Pa. (Thursday October 29, 2015)

Diakon Youth Services’ Flight Program has received a $20,000 grant from the Julius & Katheryn Hommer Foundation. The grant represents the sixth consecutive year Flight has benefited from a Hommer Foundation grant.

“We are deeply grateful for this continuing, very important grant and for the foundation’s support of the Flight program,” says Jason Brode, regional director of Diakon Youth Services.

Flight is a voluntary program, with no state or county reimbursements, designed to aid young men who are “aging out” of traditional youth services, but who need continuing guidance and support to remain on the path to success.

Typically, all participants in the program are working, involved in post-high school educational endeavors such as college or vocational training programs, or both working and attending school. At least one former participant has credited Flight with having saved his life.

The Hommer Foundation was established in 1996 through the estate of Julius and Katheryn Hommer of Newark, New Jersey.
