Long-Term Foster Care (LTFC) Unaccompanied Children (UC) Program
Unaccompanied Children (UC) served in the LTFC Program arrive to the United States without a parent, relative or other adult to care for them. Unaccompanied children are under the age of 18 and typically ages 14 to 17. Unaccompanied children are 75% male and come predominantly from the Northern Triangle countries (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador) and Spanish speaking although UC can be from 24 countries around the world.
Diakon Adoption & Foster Care is the only Long-Term Foster Care Program in Pennsylvania serving unaccompanied children. During their time in foster care, unaccompanied children receive clinical, case management, education and legal immigration support services. The LTFC UC Program operates out of the York area and focuses on helping unaccompanied children build life skills and acclimate into their new communities as they move towards achieving legal status in the United States.
